WE NEED SOLUTIONS

Worst Law of the Month

The Oil Pollution Act of 1990
Limitation of Liability For Big Oil

Is this the "Tort Reform" that many say we "NEED".... I think NOT !!! Should congress simply FIX/INCREASE the oil company liability ....when no one has a clue about how much damage there may be??? LEARN MORE - Education is our best defense.

Huffington Post: "Congress should not be debating increasing the limitation but rather eliminating it entirely."

Learn about declining USA oil production: U.S. crude oil production peaked in 1970 and has declined gradually since then. In 1970, domestic production of crude oil (including lease condensate2) averaged 9.64 million barrels per day (MMbbl/d). In 2007, total U.S. domestic crude oil production, including Federal offshore, averaged 5.06 MMbbl/d, a decrease of about 47% from 1970.

Other Possible Solutions

1. We could/should demand a law that requires a balanced budget. Without reference to a timely balanced budget - no bailout plan will provide a lasting solution.

2. We could/should demand law that requires national energy indendence from renewable resources.

3. We could/should demand a law that laws be laws - no more combining public project spending (entitlements) with the law making process. Public spending needs to addressed as a seperate/dedicated issue and judged by merit with all public spending proposals.

4. We could/should demand that all Emergency War Powers be publically reviewed and properly eliminated and our constitutional rights restored to peace time levels.

Ultimately, I believe we need a final 'check' to our checks and balances.

WE, THE PEOPLE, need a national right to Initiative & Referendum. Until WE, THE PEOPLE, have the right to repeal a bad law and/or make the tough laws, congress will continue to write bad checks and squander our tax dollars.

The People's right to Make A Law by Inititiative is a form of Direct Democracy which has been alive and well at state and local levels since 1777. The Initiative is recognized in 24 states and the District of Columbia. The Initiative is generally combined with the right to Referendum - the People's right to overturn legislation already passed at the state or local levels. Benefits to a National Right To
Initiative & Referendum

1. Imagine a much needed law being put before the people on a national ballot WITHOUT entitlements (pork) and watered down language for special interest groups.

2. Imagine a Congress and the President having a little more incentive to act on behalf of public opinion.
